Dirt under my fingernails and a song in my heart-Coaxing nature to feed my family and the community

O Lord my God,

When I in awesome wonder Consider all The works Thy Hand hath made,

Then sings my soul,

My Saviour God, to Thee,

How great Thou art!

How great Thou art!

Lyrics ~ Carl Boberg, 1859 - 1940

English Translation ~ Stuart K. Hine, 1899 -

This song often erupts from deep within me when I experience the majestic wonder if God's creation. We started our garden in March, 2011 with Great Hope and Expectation! You are invited to follow along on our journey and learn along with us as we live and learn.

While developing our garden we are working through an Amanda Benett unit study "Gardening" and I will be posting assignments from that study as an example for my children.

The Decision

Early in March we decided to start small and see what we could do to produce fresh vegetables for our family and maybe even make some money selling what we couldn't use.

My husband started burning off a relatively clear place near the edge of our yard.  Next thing I know, he has 1800 sq. feet cleared.
He did his research and found the perfect tiller for our project. And it is a "hass"  It sure beat using a shovel!!
When we started tilling it didn't seem like a small garden!!  Six rows 100 ft long.
